After 28 something hours of flying I finally arrived in Pesaro on Monday. Whilst I have seemed to escape the perils of jet lag I was very exhausted from travelling, It's hard work! My fantastic host family that I'm staying with live in Candelara, a small village just outside of Pesaro. On Tuesday we went into Pesaro to sort out my immigration forms etc. with the police (No small feat in Italy!) as well as heading into the work place of my host mum (The conservatorio di Rossini) which in great Italian style is nestled nonchalantly in a building so beautiful if it were to be in Australia would be a national treasure, before finally heading home to fantastic lunch of pasta cooked by Piero (My host brother). For Dinner we made pizza Pesaro style, a sort of mix between rotti, pizza and a pita pocket. The toppings are placed on top of bread very much simillar to rotti which is then folded over to form a pocket of pizza-ry goodness.
Today was my first day of Italian school, it's very different to that of Australian school. Before school starts at 8:30 the building is locked up with steel doors, when the gates are finally opened students move to a class room in which they stay for the rest of the day less small ten minute breaks every two hours or so. The teachers move between classrooms and all the students in a form group do the same subjects. Unlike in Australia most leaning is done by rote.
During lunch with the family today we tried vegemite on toast (The finest toast and butter which vegimite has ever graced I might add) which they were pleasantly surprised to enjoy (Only second to the Tim Tams also present). I on the other hand was very much more impressed with the risotto prepared for a simple mid week lunch, a far cry the peanut butter sandwiches of Australia!
Bye for now
